Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

The short version: WatchSnap stores your photos and scan history locally on your device. We don't have user accounts, we don't track your identity, and we don't sell your data. WatchSnap shows no advertising. Data leaves your phone in exactly four situations: when you ask WatchSnap to identify a watch (the photo is sent to our identification server, which forwards it to our AI providers), when WatchSnap looks up a market value (only the brand, model, and reference text are sent to our valuation service, which draws on our own price research and eBay's public listing data), when you voluntarily submit a mistake report (the photo and your notes are sent to us so we can improve the app), and when you subscribe (handled by Apple and RevenueCat).

Who we are

WatchSnap is operated by Forge Snap (DirtBite LLC), an independent app studio. This Privacy Policy describes how WatchSnap handles your information.

Information WatchSnap stores on your device

The following information is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad and is never transmitted to us or any third party unless explicitly described in the next section:

This data stays on your device. If you delete the app, this data is deleted.

Information sent to third parties

WatchSnap uses the following services. Here's what each one receives:

AI watch identification (our server + AI providers)

When you scan a watch, the photo is re-encoded before sending — a process that removes embedded metadata such as GPS coordinates — and transmitted to our identification server (hosted on Cloudflare), which forwards it to our AI providers (Google Gemini, with xAI Grok as a fallback and cross-check) for identification. No user identifier or account information accompanies the request, and our server does not keep a copy of the photo after processing. To prevent abuse, our server temporarily records the network (IP) address of each request for rate limiting; these records are not linked to your photos or identity and are automatically deleted within a few hours.

Market value lookup (our server + eBay)

To show a market value range, WatchSnap sends only the identified watch's brand, model, and reference text (never your photo, never any personal data) to our valuation service. That service draws on our own compiled price research and on eBay's public listing data through eBay's official developer program. When you tap "See live listings," WatchSnap opens an eBay search for that watch; those links may be affiliate-tagged, meaning we may earn a commission if you purchase, at no extra cost to you. Values shown are market ranges for reference only — never a formal appraisal.

License plates & casebacks

Photos of watches sometimes capture engravings or serial numbers on a caseback. WatchSnap does not extract, store, or transcribe personal serial numbers. The identification AI reads only the information needed to identify the model (brand, model, reference). The photo itself is transmitted for identification as described above and is not retained by our server after processing.

Mistake reports (sent to us, only when you choose)

If an identification looks wrong, you can submit a mistake report from the app. When you do, WatchSnap uploads the scan photo along with the app's identification, your correction (if any), any notes you typed, and basic technical details (app version and platform) to our infrastructure (Cloudflare storage), and a copy of the report summary is delivered to our support inbox. Reports contain no location data, no device identifiers, and no account information. We use reports for exactly one purpose: finding and fixing identification mistakes. To have a report you submitted deleted, email [email protected] with the approximate date and watch, and we'll remove it.

RevenueCat & Apple (subscriptions)

WatchSnap Unlimited subscriptions are processed by Apple. Apple handles your payment information directly — WatchSnap never sees your credit card or billing details. RevenueCat helps us validate the subscription with Apple and receives your anonymous Apple-assigned identifier and the product purchased. No name, email, or other personal information is shared.

No advertising

WatchSnap displays no third-party advertisements and includes no advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your information to advertisers, and we do not use your data to target ads.

Information we do NOT collect

WatchSnap does not:

Subscriptions

WatchSnap offers an optional subscription, WatchSnap Unlimited, billed monthly or annually through your Apple ID. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your device's App Store account settings. A few identifications are free without any subscription. Values and identifications are provided for informational purposes only and are not a professional appraisal or a guarantee of any watch's authenticity or worth.

Children's privacy

WatchSnap does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require accounts or personal information to function.

Your rights

Because WatchSnap doesn't keep your data on our servers, there's no account to delete or data export to request — your scan history and photos live entirely on your device, and deleting the app deletes them. The one category of data we do hold is mistake reports you chose to send us; email [email protected] and we'll delete any report on request.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to how WatchSnap handles data, we'll update this page and note the change in the app's release notes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
